Living with it

Clay keeps every tea you pour through it.

Unglazed clay is porous. It takes on the oil and the colour of whatever is brewed in it — which is why a pot is kept for one tea, and why an old one pours better than a new one ever did.

The table it ends up on, most evenings.

01 Season it Fill it with the tea you mean to keep in it, water just off the boil, and leave it to cool overnight.
02 Rinse only Hot water and nothing else. Detergent lives in the clay far longer than tea ever does.
03 Let it breathe Lid off, resting on a cloth, until it is dry the whole way through.
